History

The Milford Fire Department is a 35 member paid-on-call fire department with a full time chief. There are two part-time firefighters on duty each weekday during regular business hours. They man Station #1 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and at Station #2 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, two firefighters are assigned to sleep-over duties 7 nights a week to provide rapid response capabilities.

The department has provided fire suppression services since 1846 and is State licensed as a Basic Life Support agency with transport capabilities with the State of Michigan. During the week, engine company inspections keep the on-duty firefighters busy.

The Milford Fire Department protects 15,000 residents living in a 36 square mile area. In addition to fire suppression and EMS activities the Fire Department provides fire station tours and fire prevention talks to any community organization upon request. Public Fire Safety education in elementary schools is considered our highest priority. Milford Firefighters also provide Community CPR Classes that are available by scheduling through the chief’s office.

Milford Firefighters take part in community events such as the annual Milford Memories Festival and clean-up activities in the downtown business district. The firefighters have been active in selling Goodfellow Papers to raise money for the needy during the Holidays.
